Centro Espigas was founded in 2005 by Ms. Nina Gorrissen, in response to the educational and social needs of the area. It is currently managed by Centro Espigas Non-Profit Organization.

At Centro Espigas, we develop different educational proposals that complement the formal education at public schools and offer different means of support to the families.

We also offer breakfast, lunch and snacks to the students and staff.

All services are provided free of charge, being Fundación Retoño Uruguay (FRU) our main source of funding. In CAIF and in the Children’s Club we have an agreement with INAU (Child and Youth Uruguayan Institute), which contributes with a percentage of both budgets. The Simiente Project is fully funded by the FRU.

490 children are the direct beneficiaries of our programs and a total of 700 people, including siblings and family members, benefit from them indirectly. All of them have free access to the First Level Medical and Dental Care Clinic that Fundación Retoño Uruguay built and finances on the premises.

Zone of influence

Due to the significant demand for admission to our programs, it became necessary to define a zone of influence based on the public schools with which each program works. As of 2016, we have defined the area of influence outline outlined in red .
