Names selection

During the first two months of the year we work on selecting names for each group. This activity is based on the understanding that “being” an individual is as important as belonging to a group. In the latter, we coexist with people who share common interests and with whom we can identify ourselves. It is important to be able to develop a colletive group identity. We based the selection on the names chosen in previous years (native animals, flora, etc.) and continued in the same line of getting to know what is ours.

Each group’s name had to be a neighborhood of our city, Montevideo. Each classroom was randomly assigned one municipality, which they had to investigate, get to know and finally choose a neighborhood to name their group. All children have the need to inform themselves, investigate, communicate knowledge, use arguments and persuade others of such selection.

Without a doubt it was a very enriching experience for communications skills development but also as a way to explore citizen duties and rights, as it is a secret vote election. After the election, the children design their group’s flags and they exchange the 2021 for those for 2022.
